On / About Samui

Thailand's third largest island at 247sqm, during the last decade has become one of Southeast Asia's premier tourist destinations.

Koh Samui fits snugly in the gulf of Thailand, surrounded by other gems like Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao and is located 84 km east of Surat Thani. (the provincial capital of the mainland) with soft sand beaches shaded by towering palms, delicious fresh seafood and a vibrant nightlife, Samui has a magical formula that seems to cast its spell on everyone (to return usually). Many tourists are content to laze the days away on the beach, soaking up the sun and cooking off in the turquoise waters, but for the action enthusiast there are plenty of choices. Diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, and para gliding, beach volley and off road driving (and other similar activities).

One of many appealing features on the island is the loop (ring) road, which makes a 50 km circuit around the Island, giving tantalizing glimpses of superb beaches on the North east and West coasts. It runs past sleepy fishing villages and through seas of coconut palms, passing Samui's most impressive waterfall and tempting turn offs into the highlands along the way. Other attractions on or near the road include a butterfly farm, a snake show, a monkey training center, and health Spa's dedicated to pampering the body.

Samui is chosen time and again as a great destination for honeymooners and holidaymakers alike for its amazing beauty and excellent attractions. Tall coconut trees, rocky hills, dense mountainous jungle, secret coves, white sandy beaches and warm seas characterize this beautiful island. Complete (surprisingly) with its own airport Koh Samui and the Papillon residence are easy places to visit. There's plenty on Samui to keep you amused.

There is an element of preservation on Samui with most permanent residents wanting to preserve, so some time ago a group formed an island organisation / Club and everything residents can do to keep Samui beautiful and unique they try to implement and encourage.

An interesting fact is in early development Samui was one of the first islands to impose strict building regulations. For Example, buildings over 2 stories high are not allowed to be built within a certain distance from the beach to prevent towering mosterous block type hotels from springing up.
